Released recently by Equinoxe records this is the second
full length release from Germany's Reptyle. Very much in the Goth Rock
vein, the 5 piece have also played an impressive range of gigs and festivals
during their lifespan. We have 12 tracks here so you definately get
your moneys' worth. Opening with Where I Come From, which starts slowly
then really picks up the pace. The bass and drums rumble the guitars
cut through for a track which hits you like an express train. Track
2, Just like you allows the track to build and pulse, the guitars dominate
and the whole track builds in intensity, the vocals sit a more comfortably
on this one. Slowing us down a little is Under the Hammer which allows
bass and vocals to pull the track along, although at times the full
force of the guitars is let loose. Following on is Suffer has the dual
guitars really working well, as they cut swathes through, the track
showing admirable restraint without losing the power. Next up is Bought
me a Lie is a medium paced track which shared much in common with what
has passed before, whilst Honest Liar is much more a slow brooder, the
guitars flitting around the edges rather than being the main driving
force. On to One Touch which really builds and powers up. The vocals
more powerful than ever but all are really given a chance to shine,
the best track yet! We move to Dynasty which starts slowly and builds
but is generally a mid paced track as is Tower of Bridges for the most
part. The guitars again dominate, amongst the driving rhythms on All
is Lovewhich is certainly pacy, but nothing compared to that of Black
Snow in parts. Here the vocals rise above the instruments but again
it's a very guitar heavy track. The final track is Great Opportunities
again gives all a chance to shine, really letting loose towards the
end and providing us with a strong finish. If truth be told the album
does exactly what it promises. It's hard Goth Rock, without veering
too much towards Metal. However, there's no real surprises here and
they do struggle to stand out from their peers. Simon (LiveJournal) |
